Paul Angone is the writer of the blog “All Groan Up” and the book “101 Secrets For Your Twenties”. Number 99 of his 101 secrets is “Success in your 20’s is more about setting the table than enjoying the feast” I sure hope he’s right because I’ll be 30 tomorrow and I haven’t got much to show for my 20’s, but I’ve got a lot of positive momentum heading into my 30’s.

Here are my 30 thoughts on turning 30

1. Wow! I’m here. It’s not as bad as I thought it would be.

2. I’m not who I thought I would be and that’s a good thing.

3. Maybe people will take me seriously now. Not likely.

4. I love myself! Every quirk, every trait make me who I am and I wouldn’t change that for anything.

5. I need to make sure I’m getting enough fiber.

6. Stop looking for people to make you happy and enjoy the people in your life.

7. I wouldn’t be where I am if I hadn’t experienced the things I have.

8. If you’re happy where you are now, you have no reason to regret the past.

9. Am I a prime candidate for osteoporosis?

10. Is it too late to be a tennis star? There’s always golf…or darts I guess.

11. I’m currently on year 6 of my 5 year plan.

12. The world needs me. It’s got everyone else, but we’re short one me.

13. No matter how great or awful I think I am, the sun comes up everyday without any help from me.

14. Things I thought I wanted were really not that important to me.

15. Be the best version of yourself you can be, that’s what will attract people to you.

16. Things I thought I needed, I really didn’t.

17. I’ve got everything I need, everything else is just a bonus.

18. Was I that immature when I was that age?

19. Good friends will let you be you and forgive you when you’re you.

20. When I was a teenager I thought someone who was 30 was really old and no fun. Do people think that way about me?

21. The ups and downs of your 20’s aren’t as significant as you thought they were at the time.

22. Life is a marathon, not a sprint.

23. I think turning 29 was worse. I felt like I had so much to still accomplish in my 20’s, but felt like I was running out of time.

24. 30 is the new 20. Right?

25. The anticipation of what will happen in my 30’s is killing me.

26. Crap! I’m halfway to 60, but at least I’m not 40 yet.

27. It’s just another day, I’m still the same person I was yesterday and will be the same person tomorrow.

28. I thought 30 would feel really old, but it doesn’t.

29. I’m not where I want to be, but I’m closer than I was yesterday.

30. I’m just getting started, the best is yet to come.

There they are, my 30 thoughts on turning 30. Some about what I’m going to miss and some about what I’m looking forward to. Some are things I’ve learned and others are things I’m still learning. Turns out life isn’t over at 30.

Any thoughts you’d like to share from a milestone birthday?
