Don’t Get Caught

On short notice I needed to borrow hockey equipment. I knew where my friend Princess kept his equipment, but he was no where to be found. So I just took it. Easier to beg for forgiveness than ask for permission right?

Princess was generally a nice guy, but the nickname Princess was more of an ironic name. He was a rather large man, tall with a wide muscular frame, not usually one to mince words or shy away.

I was riding with my friend Ian to the game in his small car so we sent my (Princess’) equipment with our friend Olli in his truck. Everything made it to the game fine, but on the way home Olli had put my equipment on top of someone else’s and when he was driving on the highway it flew out of the back of his truck.

Luckily he spotted it leaving the truck box in his rear view mirror. Luckily again it hit the pavement and rolled off of the highway and into the median. Olli stopped the truck and had to run back to get my equipment with traffic oncoming.

When Olli delivered the equipment back to me I had an astonished look on my face as Princess’ hockey bag was covered in dirt and had a lot of scuff marks on it.

Somehow before I could tell him (maybe shouldn’t have waited a week?), Princess found out about his well traveled hockey equipment. To say that he did not find it humorous would be an understatement. He gave me a very long lecture on respecting other people’s belongings. I understood that I had made a mistake, apologized to Princess and begged for forgiveness.

If it seems that you’re acting even the slightest bit underhanded, maybe you should take a look at what you’re doing and ask yourself if it is worth it? No matter how well you cover it up or think that you’ll never be found out it’s going to catch up to you. It may not be today, it may not be tomorrow, but someday.

Sometimes it’s your conscience, sometimes it’s a crazy series of events that sees a hockey bag fly out of the back of a truck on the highway that gets you busted, but at some point you’ll realize that it wasn’t worth acting the way that you acted.

Is your underhandedness worth it?
